Life's Essential 8. The Key Measures for Heart Health. #4- Get Healthy Sleep.

Following up from February which is American Heart Month... The next several  weeks I will focus on Heart Health. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide 17.9 million deaths per year are related to CVD. There are several risk factors for CVD divided into two main groups, non-modifiable and modifiable risk factors.

Non-modifiable risk factors are things you can not change, there are only four major non-modifiable risk factors that are: gender, race, family history and age.  The good news is that almost all risk factors for CVD are considered modifiable, meaning they are things you can change to lower your risk for heart disease, risk factors such as:  hypertension, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, stress, poor sleep, and smoking.

Having a health coach can help you with all of this! Send me a message to connect, if interested!

The American Heart Association (AHA) is a great organization to learn more about heart disease and prevention. They have "Life's Simple 8 your checklist for lifelong good health" which are ways to focus on improving some major modifiable risk factors to keep your heart healthy. I will share key points from the AHA website that focuses on each of the 8 ways to prevent and manage heart disease.

I encourage everyone to visit the American Heart Association to see what you can do to he Heart Healthy !  They offer valuable tips, plans, recipes, and much more.  www.heart.org/en/healthy-living/healthy-lifestyle/lifes-essential-8
